Thank you for your interest in the Summer Youth Employment Program (SYEP) at the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC)! We are excited about the opportunity to offer this experience to students and look forward to reviewing your application.
About the Program
The Summer Youth Employment Program, hosted and coordinated by MUSC's Enterprise Office of Training and Impact, provides students with:
- Hands-on experience in a professional healthcare environment
- Leadership development opportunities
- Career exploration within MUSC's workforce
Application Instructions
This application is designed to help us understand your background, experiences, and motivations for participating in the program. Please carefully review the following guidelines before submitting your application:
- You will be asked to complete the entire application including responses to application questions.
- There are two submission options based on whether or not you have a resume and cover letter.
- You will also have the opportunity to disclose any accommodations you may need during the program.
We appreciate your interest in SYEP and look forward to learning more about you!
Application Pathways
Applicants may choose one of two options based on their materials:
Option 1: Traditional Application
This option is for students who have a résumé and cover letter. You will be required to submit:
- Résumé
- Cover Letter
- One Letter of Recommendation (from someone who knows you professionally or personally)
- Response to one Essay Question (choose from the provided options)
Option 2: Narrative-Based Application
This option is for students without a formal résumé or cover letter. You will be required to submit:
- One Letter of Recommendation (from someone who knows you professionally or personally)
- Responses to four out of five Essay Questions
There is no advantage to selecting one option over the other-please choose the format that best represents your strengths.
Guidelines for Written Responses
- Be thoughtful and authentic in your answers.
- Provide specific examples to support your statements.
- Proofread your responses for clarity and grammar.
Use of AI Policy
- You may not use AI to generate content for your responses. Your answers should be your own original work.
Deadlines
Application Deadline: February 25, 2026
Late submissions will not be considered.
Next Steps
- After submitting your application, you may be invited for a group virtual interview as part of the selection process in March 2026.
- Notifications regarding acceptance into the program will be sent by April 2026.
