Share Your Telehealth Story Campaign

The South Carolina Telehealth Alliance (SCTA) and Palmetto Care Connections (PCC) work alongside many other organizations to improve the health of all South Carolinians through telehealth. While telehealth has been happening in SC for many years, it has become especially important amidst the COVID-19 crisis and its subsequent use in the state has skyrocketed. This is in part because of increased reimbursement coverage from insurers and loosening of regulations around telehealth. The SCTA and PCC want to hear from you about your experiences with telehealth!

We're collecting South Carolinians' voices of support and telehealth stories to share with policymakers and the general public. The SCTA recently released a position statement with recommendations for continued insurance coverage of telehealth beyond the COVID-19 pandemic. The statement outlines the following key items:

-Insurers in South Carolina should cover telehealth services as benefits the same way they cover in-person services.

-Insurers in South Carolina should pay the same amount for services provided via telehealth as in-person services.

-Insurers in South Carolina should pay for healthcare services provided via telehealth no matter where the provider or the patient are located (urban, rural, office, home).

-Insurers in South Carolina should not restrict what type of providers can provide telehealth services - if a provider is able to bill for a service provided in-person, they should be able to bill for a service provided via telehealth.

-Insurance in South Carolina should not impose any additional administrative burdens for telehealth vs. in-person care, nor restrictions on telehealth platforms so long as they are HIPAA-compliant.
